Weather and its consequences

Scientifically proven is the influence of the weather on the well-being of the alpine foehn. When it occurs, the number of accidents increases on the road, at work and in the home, as shown by an evaluation of rescue services. According to a survey by the Institute for Demoscopy in Allensbach, around two-thirds of the population is affected by the fact that the weather generally has an impact on health.

Weather sensitivity: Everybody is different

The range of weather sensitivity symptoms is large. It ranges from headache and body aches to frequent listlessness, to lack of concentration and irritability. In sensitive people, the sensitivity to the weather, also known as biotropism, can even lead to insomnia, depression and a general lack of life. The main victims are women rather than men, older rather than younger.

Sick in the true sense, the weather can not. It may well worsen existing or hidden diseases. Scientists distinguish different degrees of severity:

  • All people, even those who do not want to admit it, are "weather-reactive". For example, in sunny weather with pleasant temperatures you are usually in a better mood than in rain and cold.
  • "Weather-sensitive" are those persons whose vegetative (not influenceable) nervous system reacts extremely sensitively. Their threshold is so low that air pressure and temperature fluctuations immediately manifest themselves in complaints such as tiredness, exhaustion, lack of work, concentration and sleep disturbances.
  • The term "sensitive to the weather" is used when weather changes make existing illnesses such as cardiovascular complaints, arteriosclerosis and rheumatism worse, or old injuries (broken bones) cause pain again.

Health consequences of the weather

When the cold falls veins and veins and blood pressure increases. The risk of heart attacks, thrombosis and strokes is increasing. In strong warming and humid weather, however, expand the veins and veins. In people with low blood pressure, headaches and dizziness are the result. The reason: The heart has to pump significantly more blood through the body in the same time. Those who suffer from high blood pressure, on the other hand, usually feel better in this weather condition.

Arteriosclerosis mainly affects the elderly. Your organism often responds to the slightest changes in air pressure. The result is pain throughout the body. These people are particularly sensitive to incipient intaglio printing.

gravity waves

Why some of those affected already feel the weather change two days before his onset with pain attacks is still unclear. Some reasons for the unpleasant rashes of the inner barometer seem to have been clarified. On the one hand, air pressure fluctuations obviously irritate sensitive receptors on the blood vessels and can thus confuse the circulation.

These fluctuations in air pressure are referred to as "gravity waves". They always occur when layers of air rub against each other. The air masses move at different speeds and in opposite directions. This creates vibrations in the air that move at the speed of sound. It is thought that this affects tiny sensors in the carotid artery, which are responsible for the regulation of blood pressure and circulation.

spherics

Another weather phenomenon is electromagnetic and lightning-fast pulses, the so-called Spherics. Often Spherics occur from thunderstorms, bad weather or fair weather fronts and at a meeting of cold and warm air masses. They hurry ahead of the actual weather with almost light speed. For sensitive people, it may therefore come long before a change in the weather to first complaints. It is believed that spherics can affect the electrical stimulus transmission of the nervous system.

A shield of these waves or rays is not possible. They penetrate every wall of the house, causing the well-known interference on the radio. Whether and to what extent gravity waves and Spherics actually trigger weather sensitivity is currently being studied in studies.

The cause is in the air

Meanwhile, it has been researched when Central Europeans feel most comfortable. Nature has established that the human organism can withstand climatic fluctuations of up to 20 degrees Celsius and more without major problems. But at a moderate temperature of 20 to 25 degrees, sunshine and high pressure weather, the burden on the circulation is usually the lowest.

However, this statement does not apply without restriction, because: Low air exchange, as is typical for long-term high-pressure areas, leads in summer and winter to an accumulation of pollutants in ground-level air layers. And so in extremely hot summers not only the sweltering heat, but also dust and ozone can lead to sometimes severe physical complaints.

Weatherproof tips for the home

Weather-sensitive people can do a lot to increase their well-being. The catchphrase is: hardening (desensitization).

  • Inform yourself regularly about the bioweather. There are recommendations for the right behavior.
  • Be aware of weather stimuli. Best with walks in the fresh air. This cures and makes it less sensitive to weather stimuli.
  • A similar effect has new climate change. Therefore, drive as often as possible to the sea or the mountains.
  • Regular exercise, such as walking or swimming, can increase your body's adaptability.
  • With changing showers (hot and cold), sauna, massage, gymnastics, moorland, thermal baths and Kneipp castings, you can raise the threshold against weather influences.
  • Complaints such as lack of concentration, tiredness, nervousness, headaches and mood swings can be improved by a healthy lifestyle. These include above all a renunciation of alcohol, nicotine and caffeine as well as sufficient sleep.
  • Mental disorders are often symptoms of work and family overload. They can be strengthened by climate alarm. Relaxation exercises such as autogenic training, tai chi and yoga can help.
  • Unnecessary stress should be avoided as much as possible. Give yourself enough rest.
  • Keep a weather sensitivity diary. It helps to find out which weather conditions you are particularly sensitive to and thus actively prevent. Avoid things that increase your sensitivity to the weather.
