Many of the ingredients of iced tea, such as preservatives and flavorings, are typical of soft drinks from the supermarket. Because in addition to lemonades, effervescent drinks and sweetened juices, iced tea is one of the so-called soft drinks. These are usually characterized by a high content of citric acid. Citric acid can attack the enamel when consumed regularly. In addition, some of the industrially produced iced tea products contain up to 90 grams of sugar per liter. Thus, there is an increased risk of tooth decay. Moreover, these ice tea products can be the cause of obesity and diabetes.
Artificial sweeteners make you want more
Although there are also sugar-free ice cream brands, but they contain a lot of artificial sweeteners, which are very appetizing. When eating such flavored iced tea, the taste buds get used to the sweetness, so the body eventually craves more and more iced tea.
Industrially produced soft drinks should therefore be deleted from the nutritional plan. Instead of buying ice cream in the supermarket, you prefer to make your iced tea yourself. We'll show you how to make the delicious thirst quencher with delicious fruit yourself.
Make sugar-free iced tea yourself
Recipe for the ice tea "Hot on Ice" (for 4-6 persons):
- 1 liter of fresh water
- 12 teaspoons black tea
- 3 untreated lemons
- 25 ice cubes
And this is how it works: Take 1 liter of water, 12 teaspoons of black tea, 3 untreated lemons, 25 ice cubes. Boil the tea with boiling water and infuse for three minutes. Rinse the lemons hot and halve. Squeeze out three half lemons and mix the juice with the tea. Cut the other lemon halves into thin slices. Anyone can taste sweets.
And now the trick: the iced tea is "shocked". That is, to preserve the full tea aroma, the ice cubes are doused with hot tea. The tea is immediately cold and tastes wonderfully refreshing.
The advantage of homemade ice tea with no sugar: it has few calories and therefore offers itself as an optimal liquid supplier in the summer.
Caffeine content of iced tea
Conventional iced tea is often fortified with extracts of black tea and thus contains plenty of caffeine. Although the caffeine content in iced tea is not quite as high as in other caffeine-containing beverages, children should be able to resort to healthier thirst quenchers such as mineral water or homemade iced tea.
For the preparation is suitable for this example, fruit tea; Fruit tea tastes sweet, but is sugar-free and contains no caffeine. In addition, the iced tea can be filled with seasonal fruits such as strawberries, peaches or cherries at will.
